  • I come from a background of teaching speech, drama and performance. It was by chance that I was made aware of the profession of being a funeral celebrant. It so happened that a friend of mine asked me to put together a ceremony for his father. It meant creating a ceremony that reflected his father’s life and character.  It was a moving service that brought the warmth of celebration to an otherwise sad occasion. Afterwards people told me how touched they had been. I was encouraged by the positive feedback for my part in the proceedings.

A few months later I was asked again to do another funeral. This time the funeral director took me to be a professional celebrant and many of those attending also. This made me think seriously about doing it as a profession. And so I took the Green Fuse training. This has given me a thorough foundation for my new work.

In this country a great deal of freedom is available when it comes creating/choosing the kind of funeral ceremony you feel to be appropriate.

My aim as an independent funeral celebrant is to create a ceremony that is filled with a loving and inclusive atmosphere; a ceremony that harmonises with your family’s wishes and brings to expression the values, character and life journey of your loved one.

Well all I can say is a massive big 'thank you ' for your support today with a lovely service for our Grandad. Your manner and your soft spoken tone during the eulogy was so appropriate. I don't know if anyone has ever told you that you have a wonderful professional manner.
