  • My name is Terry Swain and I am a Green Fuse trained independent funeral celebrant working throughout the Dorset and East Somerset areas.

    I am fully qualified and hold a diploma in funeral celebrancy.

    My aim is to do my best by writing a unique ceremony, and in doing so help families create a fitting tribute to a loved one. I am highly organised and work with integrity and efficiency.

    Each ceremony is created and written individually, with empathy and understanding, in order to ensure that it is totally unique and that it is personalised for the person who had died.

    To this end I spend time with bereaved families prior to the funeral to learn as much as possible about your loved one.

    I am happy to officiate at a ceremony that are either religious or spiritual or equally for those who have no faith.

    My background is in the world of local government.I believe my role in this area has enabled me to be a sensitive listener and also an experienced writer and presenter.

    I have also worked for local funeral businesses in both Dorchester and Weymouth for a number of years and appreciate the impact that the loss of a loved one has, both through this work and through personal experiences.

    As your celebrant I will meet you and your family for you to share with me your stories that reflect your loved ones life, character, beliefs  and values.

    We’ll discuss the ceremony, readings, music and the possibility of family involvement in respect of individual tributes.

    I will also liaise with your chosen funeral director and others involved.

    Hi Terry, just a short note to say thank you for your help with dad’s funeral. I think I can honestly say it was the nicest, most personal service I’ve ever been to and you captured the essence of dad’s life so well. I even had compliments from my aunt and uncle who tell me that they are rethinking their own plans as they both liked it so much (if that can ever be said of a funeral). Thank you again.

    Thank you for conducting Dad’s funeral so very well. It really helped to make the ceremony go so smoothly. Everyone has said what a fitting tribute it was for Dad and I know it will stay long in my memory. I’m sorry that you were unable to come to the get together afterwards, but we all enjoyed sharing reminisces of Dad and drank several glasses of wine in his honour. I’m sure he would have said, ‘Who’s been drinking all my lovely red wine!’
